Until last weekend, I hadn’t watched ‘Home Alone.’ I’ll give you a moment to let the shock sink in. I’ve watched a lot of Christmas movies; I just hadn’t watched ‘Home Alone’ for some odd reason. I guess it didn’t really come across as a Christmas movie to me so I just didn’t bother. But after looking at the shock across people’s faces when they realise I hadn’t watched it, I thought I better give it the day of day. Especially when I wear a dress with a Home Alone slogan on it and I hadn’t even realised!? Yikes. (It was a gift to be fair.)
The movie wasn’t too bad, it definitely did not launch to my favourite Christmas movie slot, but I wouldn’t mind watching it again. Here are some reflections of the movies, just to prove I really have watched it now!
That’s all I can really remember, but I am halfway through Home Alone 2, which is supposedly a lot better? So maybe Home Alone will reach my top Christmas Movies list after all. I hope I didn’t slate your favourite Christmas movie too much.
Merry Christmas ya filthy animals and go nuts guys!
The movie wasn’t too bad, it definitely did not launch to my favourite Christmas movie slot, but I wouldn’t mind watching it again. Here are some reflections of the movies, just to prove I really have watched it now!
- Bad Parenting: Okay, I understand they were late to catch their flight, but would you really forget one of your children? How did it take them to get on the plane to realise that they have forgotten someone? I have been through a fair amount of airports and with a fair amount of people and I am at least 99% sure we’d notice if we had lost someone. Normally tickets are connected in terms of where we are sitting, so that would have to raise some alarm when whoever was sitting next to him sat down next to an empty chair? Not to mention the parents sat in 1st class and left their 5 children…well 4, to just chill out in a different part of the plane? How…I just? Nah, not about that life.
- Heavy sleeper: Moreover, how did Kevin not wake up when they were getting ready to go on holiday? That house would not have been quiet with everyone rushing around and screaming because they were late? I get that he was at the top of the house on his own, but it’s not like he even locked in and attempting to get out, he genuinely slept through all the commotion.
- Wishes: Now, Kevin seemed pretty intelligent. He managed to out-smart the robbers and he managed to go food shopping and do his laundry – which is something I can barely do at the age of 19! So, he is smart for his age but he still believed that he somehow managed to wish his family away? Despite the knowledge that they were all going on holiday? Kevin…you are not as smart as you think.
- Neighbour man: My favourite part of the film had to be the plot twist with the old man. Well, not really a plot twist but the misconception that he was an evil, scary old man when really he was just lonely and wanted to be reunited with his family. I like to think he was looking out for Kevin the whole time. I could have cried when he reunited with his son and granddaughter on Christmas – easily the best part of the film! And to think if the parents hadn’t believed the rumours (assumingly), they could have called the old man and Kevin would have had a physical guardian the whole time!
- Christmas Day: it made me laugh so much that the Mother waited at the airport and had to get a lift home from some lonely divorcees in order to reach Kevin as quickly as she could…and then family just bursts through the door a minute later! How pointless, she might as well have just waited with them, Kevin probably could have been alone for one minute longer. I mean, he might have started to cry, but that wouldn’t have been too bad considering he almost got killed by some dodging looking robbers.
- Robbers: I very much enjoyed the scenes with the Robbers trying to get into the house. How dumb do you have to be to not be able to outsmart a 10-year-old?
