Calling out all students. Christmas is just an illusion of a break for us guys, really it’s 2/3 weeks for us stress over how much studying we should be doing and “preparing ourselves” for January Exams. My lecturer told us we should be treating everyday like it’s University unless it’s Christmas Day itself, yeah…oops. To this day I haven’t done any revision because I have been working every day and I’ve been doing all these extra journalist things like Blogmas and Radsound (check it out…www.radsound.co.uk). I used to be quite good at revising around Christmas time, or anytime to be honest. But recently, I haven’t been doing so great! So I thought I would help you students out with some Christmas Revision Tips!
Decorations: One revision technique I have always used is decorated my door or a wall with revision. So recently I decorated my toilet door with all the content from the module, I did this will revision cards shaped like stars and lots and lots of coloured pens! I swear I spent more time colouring and sticking the stars on my door than actually reading and learning the content. But you do find that the whole process helps you to learn things because you’re reading the content and the writing it and then reading it again one you’ve stuck it up. After that you can just stare at the door like a weirdo if you want. My flat mate once caught me laying on my bed staring at my toilet door whilst listening to Christmas tunes, it was rather weird but at least I was being productive?
Q and A Cards: My favourite thing to do is Q & A cards. So after I’ve written all the content up and decorated my wall or whatever with it, I read over it and write Q and A cards with all the content within it. You’ll find that you end up with a massive stack of revision cards which is great because you look like you’ve done a ton of work, when really you’ve got one worded answers on there. But it’s an awesome way to revise as again, you’ve read and written up the content again and then you can get someone to read the questions to you and you can constantly practise. I did this at GCSE and A-Levels too and my friend and I would make it a contest and keep score of how many we got right each time and see who won right before the exam. It was fun and you are revising at the same time!
Cuppa: Make sure to take regular breaks, I think this is hard to remember sometimes when you are on a roll. But make sure you do every 30 minutes or an hour, make yourself a cuppa – or get someone else to make you a cuppa. It’s Christmas time so your family will probably be sympathetic that you’re revising instead of partying and singing Christmas songs. Grab a mince pie, stuff your face and then get back to work.
Remember you’re a Student: DO NOT STRESS about Christmas. Remember that you are a student and the people you care about are aware of this, so won’t hold you over for any crappy gifts or forgotten Christmas cards. A random customer told me this at work and it honestly made me feel 1,000 times better considering I am not even halfway through Christmas shopping and it’s less than a week away. Ugh…
Timetables: I have never found that having a timetable about what to revise and when and how long for. I feel like it just restricts you and stresses you out. So, I would personally ditch them. (Unless of course, they do help you!) I find it better to just set yourself a certain amount of hours to complete a day and then pick and choose what is more important to do that day. Timetables can be stressful and may not help you out in the long run if you need to focus on one thing more over another.
Well, I hope that helped you students out a little bit. This has persuaded me at the very least to start doing some work considering I have an essay and an exam to complete come January. I hope you keep the Christmas spirit during revision and do well in any exams!
Merry Christmas and go nuts guys!
